The Bright Fillial Piety Temple is one of the oldest temples in Guangzhou. The Buddhist site is said to date back to the 4th century AD. It plays a significant part in the Buddhist history as the novice monk Hui Neng lived here.The Temple of the Six Banyan Trees is also located in Guangzhou. The trees are no longer however the pagoda erected in 1097 still stands. The temple itself, which dates back to 537AD, is a popular tourist attraction.
Pearl River cruises are available and is an enjoyable trip. Boats depart from the pier near the Renmin Bridge. There are night cruises from Spring through to the end of Summer.
The Humen Museum is fantastic for those who are interested in the Opium Wars, the Treaty of Naking and Bogue. There are lots of exhibits and even though it is difficult getting to Humen it is well worth the trip.
