Beijing can trace its origins back to the cave dwellers, although proper records have been found dating back to 1,000BC during early tribal days. Beijing history is colourful as it is violent with Genghis Khan the first of the conquerors.

Beijing is the centre of government since before the Ming Dynasty. It was during this dynasty that the beautiful palaces pagodas and temples were built.

North of Beijing is Chengde this was the former summer resort of the Qing Emporers.

This northern region is also home to the most spectacular part of the Great Wall and the Qing Tombs.

Shidu is located approximately 110kms south of Beijing. This area has amazing rock formations and the scenery is truly beautiful.

Do's and Dont's:
Should you be invited to a Chinese home for a meal it is polite to take a gift. Flowers and chocolates are acceptable, however should you take something imported you would be widely respected and win (should it be for business) the deal or at least points in your favour.

When offering a cigarette do so with the packet open, do not hand over a single cigarette. For business purposes to give you counter part the entire pack would be most favourable.

Use both hands when presenting paper to another person in China. This shows respect.

Climate

The climate in China is so often varied. It experiences extreme cold during winter and the unbearably hot during summer, the warmest regions being in the south. During summer you can experience heavy down pours.
